This song was written as a response to the gruesome slaying of Trayvon Martin. Contrary to popular belief, the song is not JUST about the seventeen year old whose life was cut short, but rather black men in general who are often demonized in the media solely because of the pigment in one’s skin. Although we are now in 2013, racism is still alive and in full force. This song calls for men and women to stand up against the discrimination faced each day and remember those who were victimized for the color of their skin not just for a day, not for a week, but for a lifetime.
