Submission Pick: LAVISH LIFE (Detroit) – Closed Curtains /// UndergroundHipHopBLOG.com
Fans often suffer the tedious task of wading through waves of aspirants whose only talent is seemingly
the ability to acquire the software and recording equipment necessary to punish society’s eardrums.
Fortunately, although rare, true talent always walks among us and is ready to astound those who witness
it. Detroit’s Lavish, is an MC who embodies such uncommon greatness.
D’Andre Thomas initially started rapping at the age of fourteen when his adoration of music overtook first
loves–football and basketball and took precedence as a platform for displaying competitive excellence.
He soon took on the name Lavish Life. At first glance, it’s easy to view such a moniker as a another
example of the hollow worship of opulence; however, Thomas defines “Lavish” as living and being
grateful for what he has no matter how great or bleak the circumstances surrounding him at any given
time. Lavish is a mind state built on a foundation of hard work and a faith in God that cannot be broken.
Initially, his foray into music was nothing more than a hobby until Lavish began to take his potential
presence in the music field seriously in 2009. It was then he formed the group “The Go Gettas” which
would soon expand into the group “Flight Nation.” In the short time that has passed, Lavish has left an
indelible mark on those who have come in contact with his music.
Lavish Life’s expansive range of subject matter and the unique perception he delivers though his lyrics
are influenced by diverse travels that found him residing in Germany, New York, New Jersey, and Virginia
before returning to his birthplace Detroit, Michigan.
A student of the game long before he was an active participant, Lavish honed his skills via the inspiration
and knowledge attained from talented artists who possessed regional or worldwide notoriety.
Thomas cites local Michigan group “Da Conection” and his association with members Carlos Rosario and
Damien Bradley as a major inspiration for his decision to ultimately pursue a career in music. He also
deems rap luminaries Royce 5’9, Joe Budden, Jay-Z, Elzhi, and Eminem and a host of others as very
influential in the formation of his craft.
With an impeccable, sometimes seemingly effortless flow, uncommon substance, and lyrical acumen
comparable to the greats in the game, Lavish creates impactful music while refusing to compromise his
integrity. Inspired by those who believe in his talent and vision, Lavish vows to remain loyal to the art he
loves and to those who support his lyrical talent and influence.
