Swords is an emcee/producer heralding from the 217 district of downstate Illinois. His vocal style is a mix of angst-driven poetry and boom-bap era emceeing. As a songwriter, his songs drift between introspective streams of thought and deeply personal storytelling. Musically, his style is diverse – some songs bear an overt garage rock influence while others boast breakbeat sample-based instrumentation. Swords mixes conventional hip–hop production techniques with live recorded instrumentation, a marriage which gives the beats a loose and rich ambiance. He has been active in the regional hip–hop scene for the better half a the decade and has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with artists such as Brother Ali, Nappy Roots, and Braille, to name a few. His latest effort, Depth, will be released November 2, 2013 on Heirship Records.
