ZMC – “Epiffany” (Mixtape Review)

Cleveland is known for turning out superstars like MGK, Trippie Redd, and Kid Cudi. The Home of the King continues to birth new sensations like this underground trailblazer goes by ZMC. Prayed up and on the move, ZMC tells the world his story of redemption in the brand new mixtape, titled, ‘Epiffany’.

‘Epiffany’ is a 7-track mixtape that explains ZMC’s life these last two-years, describing how he found God and eventually lead to his baptism. Religion has always been safe passage in Hip-Hop, ZMC tells the story of trials and tribulations leading up to his moment of clarity as he moves forward with his new direction. Throughout the course of the project, it is clearly established that ZMC lyricism reaches greater heights through the duration of the mixtape. Gradually brilliant evolution, ZMC reaches enlightenment deep into the mixtape as he unveils his spiritual essence to fans. Majority of the mixtape is ZMC story-telling of his fork in the road moment and the therapy that changed his life. ZMC is uplifting by the end that will inspire, enjoy, and excite newfound fans to join the alliance of ZMC.

The production on ‘Epiffany’ remains dormant the entire project. Deep, hallow, and unsettling, the background does zero to amplify ZMC sound. While his wordplay dives ocean deep into impacting the message, the sound refuses to go beyond the shallow end. It’s possible that ZMC beat selections are randomly sloppy or purposely nonchalant. Lastly, the production appears to be unnecessary based on how standalone good that ZMC lyricism pilots the course of the mixtape.

In hindsight, ‘Epiffany’ is a bright idea conceptually from ZMC. All the textbook development for a great buzzworthy debut. Fulfilling, ‘Epiffany’ includes satisfying extras with special features, great message, and positive vibes. ZMC is a walking testament and his story is thought-provoking with a positive conclusion. In the end, ‘Epiffany’ is time well spent from beginning to end.
