Q&A With Maryland’s Rising Hip Hop Artist Kevin B
Hey Kevin B! Much respect on your new mixtape “Life Of A Dreamer“. . We appreciate solid music, especially form true up and coming MC’s. Please tell me how long have you been rapping? Where are you from? Do you remember where you were at exactly when you wrote your first track!!??
I am from Capitol Heights, MD. I have been rapping since 2011 and the first track I wrote was in my parents house. I can’t remember which song it was.
How do you describe you sound? How long did it take for you to find your sound?
I would say that my sound is very versatile. I pride myself on being so versatile that you cannot predict what I may make, But I would describe it as R&B and soul infused with trap beats. I just try to capture real life situations. I think I developed my sound in 2015 with my project Late Arrival
My biggest musical influence are Ryan Leslie and T.I. and when I first started rapping I made songs about stuff I didn’t have like women, cars and clothes. My cousin Jon told me to be different and rap about stuff nobody does. So that is why I rap about having the 925er life because nobody else does.
Please breakdown the creative process of your latest project “Life Of A Dreamer“.
With Life of A Dreamer I told myself that it was going to be my do or quit the project. I entered it knowing I didn’t have any team or help but just my manager and I wanted to get with the best producers I could afford and find singers that would fit perfectly for the sound I wanted, Basically I wanted to make a true body of work where everything flowed. I didn’t want you to even think about the skip button. I put myself in a space where I would just pull from other people’s experiences or mine and just capture it in song.
Any new projects coming out!?
I will be releasing some more singles this summer along with a boat load full of videos and hopefully another project entitled Nothing Was A Mistake late on this year.
Rappers nowadays think by throwing up a few videos up on social media and pushing quick projects, they can blow up overnight! Give us your view on how over saturated the market is right now with so many MC’s/Producers but not to many quality music.
The market is beyond saturated. It is completely frustrating because great talent is overlooked because the media and social media only shows you what is popular and not what is good quality. As an artist you have to believe in your craft when the world doesn’t and know that the hard will eventually pay off.
How often do you perform LIVE? Any shows lined up in the near future?
I haven’t performed much lately due to me hiding in the studio just recording. But I do have some shows lined up in the DMV area and some radio interviews to.
Here it is! Our most popular question! What is your definition of “underground hip hop”?
My definition o underground hip-hop is the unhampered talent that the labels haven’t signed yet, It is purity at its highest form. There is nothing better than an artist who is just trying to have their voice heard

Lastly, and shout out?
Yeah I wanna give a shoutout to my manager and right hand man Sean Allen and also my boys Eezy Rollins, Anthony Thomas, Philander Williams, Leon Patton III and Trey Isaacs for believing in me even when I don’t and my biggest supporter Victoria Scates who told me that I am my only road block.
