Joe Sig – Q&A Interview

JOE SIG

Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

“UGHHBLOG” WHATS GOOD? before I introduce myself I would just like to say thank you for the opportunity. this feels amazing!!!

Well I go by Joe Sig real name no gimmick. I’m an emcee from Charlotte, NC, also I own my own business (Creative Value Obsession LLC). It’s a company designed to be a channel for local artist, musicians, fashion designers to sale their product to the public and also bring awareness to my communities incredible talent.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

Struggle, Happiness, Sadness, triumph, etc.. Basically every aspect of life. I feel as though I could never run out of things to address. “life” is subject matter.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

My music is a reflection of me personally. I only address what I know. I find it hard to address world problems or even problems in my community because I’m only “aware” of those problems, I don’t “know” them. That’s what sets me apart from other artist. I’m only concerned with identifying myself and in doing so my audience will identify with the music that identifies with them personally. I think it’s important that the people who listen to my music feel like they know me. After all, we can’t be strangers, this is my life I’m giving you.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I haven’t collaborated with a many artist, or emcees so to speak. I have just recently collaborated with a few artist from Philly. Tom Natural, Geo, and a female Rapper by the name of Khature and all Three of them are Nice!!!. Also the Producer/Emcee  from Jersey, Rareseed. He’s the awkward white guy on 26 letters, my featured video on your blog. That’s my brother from another. He’s a Good Dude, very talented. And my lil Bro Codeine Quan,. He’s somebody to watch out for.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Simple “unexposed culture”. I think of hip hop like the tribes still living in the jungle in 2014 where everything is so commercialized and “modernized”. Hip hop is still out there connected to the original way of life. Still holding on to the true essence of expression.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?

My favorite producer is just blaze, he’s just too good lol. my production is done by my brothers and CVO family. (Digital Dx, Solo Steeze, Rareseed, Emaye, and Asagai Heat) I would love to work with No ID and Kanye, but my dream is to work with 40 Noah Shabib, but That’s Drake’s go to man so it’d be hard hahaha…

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Yes!! Im quietly working on a mixtape entitled LIG 2. its the second installment to my LIG series of mixtapes. LIG stands for Love, Inspiration, and Growth.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of The Top 2? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.

The Top 2 was me revisiting the beginning of all of this. I made an unreleased mixtape by the name of the Top during a terrible point in my life. I was facing 15 years of jail time about to loose what little I had left. Everyday I sat at home on house arrest hating myself, but some how I found inspiration to make music. And that’s exactly what I did, Found a studio, taught myself how to work pro tools, and started recording. 4 years later when I feel like I’m losing hope in my music career. The album art was me sitting a quarter of the way up some steps as if I had given up trying to make it to the top, but it wasn’t far away. I used the same mindset I had back then and just turned all those negative feelings into fuel for my drive. I just sat down with a bunch of beats I had from various producers who wanted to work and spoke “the truth” which is the first tracks title…
