Red Prodigy (San Antonio, TX) – Q&A Interview
Tell us a little about each other. Where you are guys from? How long have you been making Hip Hop & How did you guys all meet?
Richie Branson & Rosebudd grew up together as cousins. Meanwhile, during their teenage years, Yung Mavrick & Richie Branson formed a music relationship. From there, Yung Mavrick introduced Bambu to Richie Branson, thus completing the Red Prodigy family.
What influences you guys to making Hip Hop as a collective?
The majority of our music is influenced by life experiences.
Describe your music, and what separates this group from other Indie Hip Hop groups or movements in TX?
Red Prodigy is a diverse production house. We come from four completely different paths, but we have the ability to make music that appeal to different audiences.
Who have you guys collaborated with? Who would you guys like to collab with in the near future?
We have collaborated with various major and independent artists. Many of which can be heard on the Red Eye mixtape. In the near future, we would like to collab with Kendrick Lamar, Jill Scott, Hans Zimmer, Erykah Badu, Chrisette Michelle, and Drake – to name a few.
Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?
Our definition of “Underground Hip Hop” is music fueled with ambition. Everyone is really hungry for REAL music – No bullshittin’ around… Serious music.
Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you guys like to work with?
Production wise, our influences include: Timbaland, Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams, Justice League, 2004 Kanye West. We’d also like to work with them in the future. Our production is done in-house by Unknown Beatz, Nate Coop, Fleetwood Slim, Lincoln Frost, and OV Beatz.
Any past, current, future projects the group is promoting?
Currently, our “Red Eye” mixtape is available FREE on Datpiff & Coast 2 Coast Mixtapes. It’s hosted by DJ Tuss (Definition DJs), DJ Wildhairr (Core/Swishahouse DJs), DJ Q (Definition DJs), and DJ Steel (Enforcer DJs).
Give us a brief description of the creative process of “RED EYE” Mixtape? Also, what was the idea or concept of the cover art of the mixtape?
Our creative process is simple – get together, vibe, and go with the flow. It’s informal with no structure. Despite that, we hit the booth and always birth a hit.
