SONG REVIEW: Angel Haze – Same Love (Remix)
I’ve been a fan of Angel Haze ever since she dropped her magnificent 2012 mixtape Reservation. She’s been putting out some remixes recently that represent some of the better songs I’ve heard this year, with this being my personal favorite. I reviewed Macklemore’s Same Love when it first dropped a year ago, and even though Angel Haze’s version is really spectacular in its own way, I still prefer the original by a small degree. Angel speaks on deeper level though, given her story encompass her own personal issues of being a pansexual while growing up with a religious mother who “looked [her] straight in the face, and said ‘you’ll burn in hell or probably die of aids’”. In my opinion, this is the best song of it’s kind and there really needs to be more like it in hip-hop. You’ll also be seeing this on my list of the best hip-hop songs of 2013. Long live equality.
“Fuck your religion, fuck constitutions, fuck superstitions. There are no lakes of fire; they’re here on earth…and the only thing to do is put love first.”
