So many outsiders looking in see a war zone. Its a different environment and its not only due to gangs and drugs. The media paints this picture and confuses the world due the crime rate and violence in Chicago. Whether Chiraq or Chicago everyone has their on opinions and views about the city. Its different growing up in the more affluent areas, specially where its predominantly Caucasian. The city is broken down from North, South, East, and West and though we are in present day 2014 segregation still exist strongly in the Chicago land area. The lack of employment and community funding are two of the main reasons why the city is struggling. Our West and South sides are predominantly colored; those are the areas in which we lack employment, school funding, community centers, organizations etc. Growing up with no assistance and living in and amongst poverty kind of gives people reasons to fight, turn to violence and drugs when there is no aid or outlet to run to. Who is there to blame? Is it the government, the gangs, the lack of financial needs and support? Is this Chiraq or Chicago? I can’t tell you what it is, but one thing I can say is it’s sad.
