Haas Spitta – Q&A Interview

HaasSpittaTell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

I’m from Cincinnati, Ohio. I first started writing when I was in 8th grade, like at the age of 14. First time I laid a track down I was a freshman in high school. It was hard to balance school, basketball and rap so it took me a while to put songs together, but I was finally able to put all 17 tracks together for the mixtape in my senior year, 2014.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

My favorite artists would have to be, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye, Jay-Z, Lupe, J. Cole, and Jay Electronica. I love all of them and I learned a lot from their music, but I think my subject matter probably most resembles Lupe and Jay Electronica.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

I think most people would describe my music as Purist Rap. I want people to really listen to what I’m saying because the lyrics I’m writing are so dense with content. I think a skill that separates me from the pack is my wordplay. Sometimes I have so many double meanings and plays on words that I can’t even remember them sometimes haha. I will have every song with lyrics/explanations on Rap Genius shortly. Many Haas Spitta songs already have rap genius pages.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

The only people who I’ve rapped with are Tyvon Oliver, the artist who shoots my videos (he can spit tho!) and my brother Kasim who is a pretty good lyricist also. As far as rappers I admire Joey Bada$$ and it would be amazing to get on a track with him. I would love to work with producer Hi-Tek who is also from Cincinnati. Our styles fit together and I think we could whip up some dope stuff.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

I would say underground hip hop is all the dope music that gets overlooked. It’s a brand of hip-hop that the average person doesn’t have the capacity to listen to because it is too deep. Only the underground community can appreciate the true beauty of it.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production?  And who would you like to work with?

I’ve produced a couple of songs myself but a lot of my beats came from Youtube producers (a lot of talent out there) and just searching through beat tapes. Once again I’m trying to link up with Hi-Tek as soon as possible, I admire his work a lot.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Right now I’m worried about promoting ‘Awake From Hibernation’. I might drop a few single within the next couple months though.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of “Awake From Hibernation”? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.

‘Awake From Hibernation’ is all about my coming out party. “Awakening” my skills that were locked up for a while, and finally showing the world what I got. The album cover is a lion made of calligraphy Arabic letters with my face behind it. My name in arabic “Hasan” is woven into the right hand corner of the lion. There is a 3rd Eye on the lion’s forehead because I urge my audience to think outside the box. See the world with your 3rd eye, when your chakras are open you can see the world from a broader perspective and refrain from always following your natural drive because being short-sighted can help you in the long run. Don’t become a slave to sex and money #EyesClosedChakrasOpen

Where can we find your music and info?

All my music is on Soundcloud.com “Haas Spitta”, it’s easiest to listen there but if you want to download the whole mixtape, download it at DatPiff.com

Any shout outs?

Shout out to my mother who supported me financially and was kind enough to give me a room to work. Shout out to Tyvon Oliver aka The Space King for shooting my videos and killin it with this verse on “Cop Some Thangs” . And of course shout out to myself because I put my heart and soul in this project and I’m very proud of it.
