Christopher Choz1n – Q&A Interview

Christopher Choz1n - Q&A Interview

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

Well, I am a Midwest kid at heart. From Columbus Ohio, but spent some time in Cincy!! Mad Love and respect to the beat lounge and all the producers out there.

I was a skater who loved music, some other homies was always playing biggie, PAC, Wu, black sheep, tribe, dilla, anything you can snap your neck to. haha.

Always had verses and was spittin’ when skating so I started rappin’ around 1998 or 1999 doing mix tapes and spittin’over whatever the homie made on his computer. Got tired of using other people beats and started producing.
After 10 years producing I had so many beats and no one was using them. so I recorded one song and everyone was like “yo, you need to record over your beats”. And now I am just trying to catch up to it. Haha.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

Honestly this hip hop is all I have!! Sounds corny I know but, I have lived like a starving artist for to many years. In my teens I was an asshole skater/druggie/thief who was known to be in multiple cities every night, doing anything stupid you can think of. So I just pull from my life, I have so many walked roads and untold stories.
But to answer the question I would say I started making hip hop because it was the only thing that challenged me to be better, better than what I did yesterday or the day before. And Hearing biggies 3rd verse to “juicy” “50′ screen, money green leather sofa, got 2 rides” the play on words was magical!!

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

I would say my music is future yet classic hip hop at the same time, I think every artist out now either goes sample beats or trap/pop/edm type beats. The bridge that main stream and underground needs to allow everyone to play anything and it be music, not labeled or imaged right. McDonalds branding in hiphop makes everyone fat with too much junk!!!! Blocking real talent from being heard.

I am also a white guy who was unwelcome in the suburbs and ran crazy threw the streets. So I have a wonderful play on words and knowledge of hip hop, before 1995, haha. Producing/recording/mixing & mastering/Artwork/Video shooting and editing, I like to have control of every aspect of the artist side of an album.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I have worked with M1 of dead prez, kingvada, illogic, p. Blackk, zerostar, P.A.T.H. catylast, Holiq 1,
beat battled dibia$e, G-rocka, adikt 1, aspect 1, Skillz, young ex.

I would work with anyone, if you want to make some music that is real and has heart or a story.. I am down. But would be honored to work with anyone at TDE, mos def, the roots, krs-one, Action Bronson, byork, and Sade, just to name a few.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Honestly, I would say anything willing to be different before it’s excepted.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?

Well since I do all my own production, that is a hard one…. I would like to work with dilla 🙁 , Dr dre, Pete rock, marley marl, Mr carmack, Sam galliatry, timbaland, Neptune’s (early) quincy Jones, just blaze, alChemist, prodigy.

Influence wise I would say old 60’s & 70’s producers they had it right, scoring songs!!! Not chopping up loops. any producer that really has progression I check out.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

My brother @dashmillersays is working on a EP called “M.O.T.H unchained” I did the Artwork. and he was the feature on my track “Powerlyns”

Working on a LP and a mixtape. Slowly tho, haha. This EP is making more noise faster than I can catch up.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of Crayons II Opium – EP? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Album/Mixtape Cover Art.

crayons to opium is the story from my childhood from 8 years old to 18 years old (some current references 😉
Of being a punk runnin’ the streets. Doing drugs, thiefin’ and falling in love with all the wrong things. I wanted to come clean and confess out loud to my misspent youth, you know get it off my chest. I have done a lot in my life and want to share my stories, and what better way than over some forward beats and lazy word play.

The album cover came to me when I started drawing a bear with honey falling out of his mouth. I re did the drawing but with the eye swollen and bandages hold it, and the bee stinger still in the eye lid.
Basically if you know me you know of I go for something I might get hurt but I always get what I want, haha.
I just made the bee the M in opium cause it just made scenes and looked slick after.
