Monster Cody (Minneapolis, MN) – “Q&A Interview”

photo-2

Tell Us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How Long Have You Been making Hip Hop?

Well, every body calls me MONSTER CODY. I’m from Minneapolis, MN. I’m 27 years old now and I’v been making hip hop since the age of 13, but I’ve been making music since I was a baby, everything from Piano and keyboard to Drums and Violins.

What Influences you in making Hip Hop?

This has always been a tough question for me. To be quite honest I’d have to say the Monster inside me and the struggle I go thru within myself, with myself. The pictures on my wall, I have pictures of many musicians and idols on my studio walls and I’ve become very attached to them as if they were my friends. The face of the place i spend 99% of my time. That just sounds absolutely insane but its the truth.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

My music is extremely metaphorical. I love to speak thru the medium of music in code. Maybe its because half the time i’m not even exactly sure what I’m trying to get across in my song. My music is definatley in a world of its own. I make very deep songs and then I make very up beat kind of stuff too. My music is the the two extremes of emotion, Very sad or very happy. Never in between. I come up with own vocabulary, I am a leader, it disgusts me to follow. I refrain from any topic or phrasing that is popular in the mainstream music of the time. I start trends, I do exactly and precisely what everyone else does not.

Who Have you collaborated with? Who would i like to collab with in the future?

I’ve collaborated with hundreds of local Minnesota artists, BOSS FRED, TRU BLU, DGB, MAC IRV, CALICO ROC, KIANA MARAEH,, MR HELLO, and a zillion more. Out of town artists I’ve collaborated with San Quinn. i honestly don’t prefer to collab, it seems like I’m always on my own page so that list would probably be much larger but I try to refrain from collaborating. In the fuure, I would love to do some crazy work with AVICII or ADELE. Those are more dreams than hops. Anyone that is in their own realm.
