Paperm8 (Bronx, NY) – “Q&A Interview”

IMG_20130509_113433Tell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

Well It all started for me at the age of nine, when I watched Soul Train I assume for the first time. The group that caught my attention were Immature or IMX, you know? Roger from Sister Sister?, yea that guy. I was inspired by their performance, their style and also their being so young on television performing in front of crowds. It was exciting to me, that day I wrote my first song, and knew I wanted to be an artist.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

As an artist I’m influenced by God, I mean that literally, I have no clue where my music comes from, or how I come up with the songs I do. I like to write about life situations, mostly my life situations, rather good or bad. That’s what influence me to write. When I get a feeling to share what has happened to me or someone I know, I write and write. Truth is I don’t write as much as I should. I have so much material not recorded when its time to go to the studio, depending on my mood I’ll record whatever song I wrote previously describing the same feeling. My feelings come from God, so God is what influence my music.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

I have placed myself in my own sub genre of hiphop rap music. Due to the fact I’m from New York, people expect my music to sound a particular way. For example artist like Troy ave, Joey Badazz, etc. Those guys are great but that’s not my type of music. I make what I call ” New New York” hiphop music. A new refreshing style of east coast rap. So many say my style is a bit southern because of the beats of my choosing, but those are the tracks that most reflect my energy and emotions. I am the underground Fresh Prince of New York. Soon all will except this new sound of New York music. Other artist may rap a certain way, but I believe I’ve mastered my style and created a new brand of rap music. I use to hate the fact I didn’t sound similar to other New York artist, now I embrace it.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would like to collab with in the near future?

I’ve done songs with a few other awesome talents from the city, but still haven’t made that huge connection. We all on the grind. I’m not really liked or excepted in my city, so the artist that I feature with tend to be artist I know through a friend or people I grew up with. I’d like to work with more producers and rack up on the hottest new sounds. Producers are important.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Underground hiphop is the Jungle. It’s the streets for real. Its the day to day grind and hustle to make it above ground. Its blood, sweat, and tears, its working 15 hours a day to pay for your rent and studio time. Its love, it’s happiness, it’s hope, it’s music…. I love this shit!

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production, and who would you like to work with?

My favorite producer growing up was Swizz beatz fellow Bronx native. I work with producers all over the nation. The internet connect us so quickly, I can hashtag #beats on twitter and have 20 new beats in my email in five minutes, literally.. There’s so many new guys and girls out there making killer beats. Its really amazing the sounds that are available to even us Indie artist.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Well right now you know FRESH PRINCE OF NEW YORK is on datpiff right now, everybody needs to get that album, and I’m pushing a single on ITunes “Clap my Chrome” which is available for download, very hot tune.everybody should buy. You can also get if on Google Play, Amazon, and Emusic. I have more eps, mixtapes, and albums coming soon, no solid dates, but my next project will be called “JOI (JERK OFF INSTRUCTIONAL)” basically its a sex mixtape. I think the people especially the ladies will admire. And the best thing about being independent no one can stop me from doing it, gotta love it.
