Q&A With Los Angeles, CA Based Rapper Orb Nox (2020 Edition)
Hey Orb Nox! Been a while since that last time we chatted since 2019! Congrats on your latest single “They Can’t Catch Me”! How has 2020 treated you so far?
2020 has been a tough year with lots of surprises as we all know. But when you’ve gone through tough challenges throughout life, is like you’ve been trained for years like 2020
Since the beginning of this year, tell us how has your music career been progressing?
This year I got to realize what works and what doesn’t for me in marketing.
Describe what you want new listeners to take away listening to you for the first time?
That there is hope and justice.
How are you coping with this whole Covid 19 situation? Has it delayed any new music production by any chance?
I mean it sucks, but you have to adapt. Humans adapted and evolved for ages, so it’s nothing new to us. I just try to stay “Woke” and aware, that not everything the media tells us is facts.
We’ve been seeing a huge wave of latino/mexican Hip Hop dominate the scene lately, especially here in SoCal. Tell us how you feel about that. Do you see the same wave we do?
Well as for latino rappers, I grew up listening to 2Mex and Psycho Realm so it’s nothing new to me. I know there’s a lot of latino rappers in the underground field but as for the mainstream, not many. To me it’s not about what race could rap better, it’s about who brings quality sound. And that could be any one, from any ethnicity.
Please breakdown the creative process of your new single “They Can’t Catch Me”.
With this song I wanted to talk about secret societies and the New World Order. I broke the song down into a fictional story (3 Verses). Starting with the first verse of an Ex-C.I.A. agent that went rogue after they wanted him to implement an unhamane New World Order. The second verse goes back to how he became a ghost (soldier) from childhood to his adult training. And the third verse is when he comes back to take care of all the people responsible for the suffering of mankind.
We have to ask, with all this social discourse and revolt, protesting and rioting, exposed police brutality toward blacks and BLM, how do you feel about this? We would love your perspective on the climate we are living in right now?
I think we’re watching the natural evolution of mankind wanting to be free. Free from oppression, free from suffering, freedom into bliss, or what some call it, freedom into nirvana. And as new generations are born, humans will evolve to better adapt and address the problems in their environment.
Any advice you want to give to any up and coming Latino LA based artist?
To rap with their own natural style, and to make sure it’s your passion. If not you’re just wasting your time. Everyone wants to be a rapper these days, but it’s not everyone’s life purpose. Find your life purpose and stick to it. That’ll bring you the most joy. Life Purpose = Passion + Skills + Service . Your gifts to the world
Are you voting this year?
I never voted in the past because I felt everything in politics is rigged. But I do recommend people to vote every two years, for all the other positions in office that really matter other than the presidency. We have nothing to lose by voting, and especially this year people are more encouraged. It will be beautiful to know that our vote counts, but I’m highly skeptical after seeing my view of how the system really is.
Here it is! Our most popular question! What is your definition of “underground hip hop”?
I could easily say “Not Mainstream Hip-Hop” but that’s a basic answer. This is tough now because perspectives change through time, but I would say Underground Hip-Hop has more creative freedom for artists, than a mainstream hip-hop artist signed to a major label.
