Sito Bckwrdz (Oklahoma) – “Q&A Interview”

422922_10150674242601368_1443799587_nTell us a little about yourself. Where you are from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

UGHipHop what’s good?! I go by Sito Bckwrdz, formerly known as Yung O. I’m from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, southside to be exact, with pride. I’ve been doing this for nearly 10 years now, since my teens. I love what I do.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

I love the feeling I get from putting words together and spitting them on a dope beat. Hip Hop is the most influential genre of music. It’s powerful. Being able to touch people beyond being physical is amazing. I’ve always been a leader. Teachers used to tell my parents that my voice carries and I had leadership qualities that caused the other students to behave in whatever manner I did. I just knew I wanted to have a voice and excelling in hip hop has provided that opportunity for me. My fans really keep me going. When someone tells me that one specific song of mine impacted them for the better, that’s what motivates me even more. I love the connection.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

I’m kind of out there with my music. I’m not afraid to be vulnerable and wear my heart on my sleeves in my music. I’ll tell you the best aspect of my life then turn around on the next track and get even more personal and tell you about getting my heart broke. I can’t pretend to be someone I’m not just for success. Being genuine is one thing for sure that separates me. I struggle with my relationship with the Man above as well. That’s definitely shown in my music. I honestly didn’t realize how much I referred to him until I went back and listened to some of my older music a few months back. I want to do right, but I’m human and I’m going to make my mistakes and experience life. Like I said, I’m all out there. You’re going to get all of me through my music and I think a lot of people are just like me and able to relate.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would like to collab with in thenear future?

I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with B.o.B., Chalie Boy, Chamillionaire, and Kid Cudi. Those are my more notable collaborations, but I’ve done hundreds of collabs with some of the hot regional and local artists around the country. Man, I’d really like to collab with Bruno Mars, Miguel, Problem, and of course hot spittas like Drake, Cole, Kendrick, and Big Sean. I’d like to make something classic with Anthony Hamilton though. Something that would change the world.

What event, project, or situation made you realize you wanted to make music your profession?

Just spitting with the homies and getting on features when I first started.. I was always standing out on tracks and had the best verse. I didn’t start rapping and think that I would ever have any kind of success. I’m just a competitive person so when I was jumping on tracks coming up, I was trying to eat you. That’s where I’m back to now. I’m hungrier than ever. I’m bout to start feasting again. Can’t be comfortable with nothing.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Underground Hip Hop is that raw, “hungry for more” music. When your bank account is in the negative and you living off Ramen noodles and peanut butter and jelly and you feel like the music you making in your closet gotta be the shit that change your living condition and allow you to do more for yourself, your family, and your community. You can tell when someone is truly a product of Underground Hip Hop. It’s more than the music. It’s a lifestyle. Their grind is unmatched and the music just embraces that.

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Right now I’m pushing my latest project “Product of the Eighties” aka P.O.T.E. We’re back out in the streets and online promoting that and still shooting some more videos for it. In about a month or two, I’ll be gearing up for the release of “10finity” which is my upcoming mixtape. I plan on going all out for the promotion with that one. I feel like that’s going to be another classic project from me. It’s going to display everything I’ve been through in the past year since P.O.T.E. I plan on dropping that in February 2014. #10finity!
