The Gold’n Net (Elizabeth, NJ) – Q&A Interview

The Gold’n Net (Elizabeth, NJ)

Tell us a little about The Gold’n Net. Where are you guys from? How long has the group been making Hip Hop?

Well, The Gold’n Net is a trio made up of Tom Braudwe, Maverick Dred, and A.C. Oneders from Elizabeth, NJ. We’re actually related to each other, Maverick Dred and A.C. Oneders are brothers and Tom Braudwe is a cousin. We’ve been making music for only about a year. This is the first project we’ve released. In a nut shell, we aim to make music with substance that sends a message thru our stories as opposed to making the run of the mill “hood” or “trap” records that lack direction and quality.

What influenced you guys in making Hip Hop?

We’ve all had a genuine love for music from a very young age being that we grew up in Dominican households where music was constantly played. Naturally growing up in the 90’s thru the early 2000’s led us to opening our ears to new and trendy music, that’s where the hip-hop culture came in. Being surrounded by the environment that most rappers and artists were talking about at the time only led to the culture making a bigger impact in our lives individually. Although we didn’t start making music together early on, we’d like to say divine intervention caused this connection. We listened to most of the same things and had similar outlooks on music. We were convinced that what was being played on the radio had to change…So we have decided to take it upon ourselves to put our imprint all the way from Elizabeth, NJ…

Describe your music, and what separates you from other Hip Hop Groups?

We have great blend of instrumentals accompanied by quality lyrical content that takes a listener through the highs and lows of someone growing up in Elizabeth. It also challenges the listener to keep an ear out for hidden gems not found in today’s “hot” music spewing out the radios. The music that we’re creating is unique in the sense of it coming from three Dominican artists all coming from different walks of life. We’re able to fuse smooth and hard-hitting instrumentals with content that is current with the times but also resemble the era where MC’s were ACTUALLY saying something in there music.

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you guys like to collab with in the near future?

We haven’t really collaborated with in any other artists in an effort to hone in our skills and introduce ourselves to our fans and potential listeners…As far as producers, we’ve exclusively collaborated with the multi-talented Kyzer Soze, the mastermind behind Alkatraxx® Records. He produced and engineered the entire “The Inauguration” Ep. Individually we’d all like to collaborate with a variety of artists.

Tom Braudwe: “I’d personally love to collaborate with an assortment of talented individuals such as Kid Cudi, Drake, Wale, Pharell, and Kanye West just to name a few…In all reality it may not happen in the near future but these are artists I know that aim to stretch and create new boundaries in the hip-hop…Above all else, I crave learning and expanding musically so artists that take their time in making quality music catch my attention…”

Maverick Dred: “I would like to collaborate with artists like Kanye, Drake, Frank Ocean, and Kid Cudi. There’s a bunch more I could name, but it would be nice to work with those guys…..definitely.

A.C. Oneders: “I’d like to work with artists that are musically inclined who are taking risks and stepping out of the boundaries…as of right now, we’re focusing on evolving and creating better music as a group…”

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Our definition of “Underground Hip Hop” is music that has not been fully embraced by the mass public whether it’s because it’s not the same regurgitated tunes that are on our radio stations or the public’s resistance to the changing of the musical landscape…It’s essentially what you guys here at Underground hip-hop blog are doing, no pun intended. You guys love to scour the internet in search of the newest, freshest, and interesting brands of music that the masses have seem to stop searching for…For that we thank you.

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?

Well production wise, we’re led by Kyzer Soze, as we mentioned before. He’s the head of the Alkatraxx® Records and has been able to help us hone our skills and create our sound sonically. As far as any potential collaborations, we’re open to working with producers who aren’t afraid to step out of the box and that are willing to assist in taking our music to new heights.

Any current or future projects the group is promoting?

As of right now, we’re promoting “The Inauguration” EP, which you guys were so kind in uploading to your site and others you work with. We’re currently shooting our 1st video for the intro, G.U.S.T.O. That should be coming out in the upcoming weeks. We’re also working on our next EP that we’re tentatively planning to release late August/ September.

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of The Inauguration EP? Also/ what was the idea or concept description about your Album Art Cover.

For “The Inauguration” EP, the writing process was rather simple…Over the period of a couple months dating back to late 2013, we began searching the internet for instrumentals that we felt could evoke emotion and enhance the stories that we were able to tell on the EP that you hear today…We’d basically get together at Tom Braudwe’s house and listen/study these beats as if we were cramming for the SAT’s…Once we reached a consensus on the topics we wanted to touch on, we got down to writing the records and hammered them out…Nothing too special being that we weren’t under any pressure but our own. We just wanted to create the best possible music and put it out there to see what response we’d receive…It’s been well-recieved and being that you guys chose us has definitely reaffirmed that notion…

As far as the cover, we were inspired by the Rat Pack, they just embodied a sense of camaraderie, excitement, and great music so it felt only right for us to put our own spin on it…
