Vares – “Set Us Free” EP (Album Review)
Since T-Pain, Tallahassee, Florida has been unknown for duplicating superstars in music; however, with Florida being the go-to spot of new Hip-Hop sensations as we enter the new era, Vares looks to change that with his own rising popularity. Ready to shake up the word with his signature brand of Hip-Hop, Vares puts the word on notice with his new EP titled, “Set Us Free‘.
A project featuring a young hopeful sitting at a crossroads. Vares loves the ladies, on the five-track project, it is expressed throughout the entire 19-minutes. Building on a foundation of dark love stories, Vares circulates his love life between the world and current events like social injustice and poverty as he directs his soul to a state of peace. Handling the double duties of lyricist and crooner the entire project, we get a glimpse of potential and flaws as we indulge into the deeper portions of the body of work.
Lyrically, while stumbling from time to time with underwhelming play on words. Vares appears to have several catchy hooks but when it comes to the verses often finds it difficult to conceptually dig as deep as the production does. Touching dark approaches, Vares digs up deeply-rooted metaphors will present a phenomenal wordsmith in the future. Give a theatrical approach to songwriting and Vares will be a complete with production like this behind him.
The production on the EP is star-studded, Vares turns to the hottest new popular producers to handle his debut. Helping make an astonishing first impression is hit-making producers like Big Head on the Beat (“Gucci Gang”) on the intro track, “All Eyes on Me”. Clean, multi-layered, and precise to his sound, no doubt Vares spent a pretty penny on all five productions that are well worth the purchase.

Heavily relaying on the vibe and production to keep the interest on the EP. A smart move as Vares tone and lyrical abilities could use some work when configuring his vocal range and peaks. It wouldn’t hurt for the rising star to easy off the auto-tune and allow a guest feature to come in and supply a polished sound. Also, the project could use some dark ab-lib melodies to accompany the deeply dark tone behind the boards.
Short but sweet, Vares’ EP is a perfect digest of introduction for fans both new and old. While his body of work could use some fine tuning, Vares has a sound that is catchy, slick, and promising. ‘Set Us Free’ is a project that makes for a valuable lesson for the recording artist as fans will enjoy the project as a whole and the type of Vares that fits there earlobes.
