Quon (Amarillo, TX) – “FANS” (Official Music Video)
Quon, a southern oriented rapper, was born Dequon Stovall in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 8th. Dequon and his three siblings grew up in Arizona with his mother Lois and his stepfather. Arizona was nothing like New Orleans but it was right next to Cali. The rappers in Arizona were influenced by the rappers in Cali.
Dequon spent a lot of time in Cali and grew up listening to west coast & southern rappers like: 2pac, Scarface, Icecube, Outkast, DJ Quick etc. He began to rap about gang violence and hung out with the wrong crowd. In the late 90’s Lois moved the teenage aspiring rapper and his siblings to Texas in fear of gang violence.
Dequon stayed true to his grass-roots and established himself as a southern rapper in West Texas. As an established rapper, Dequon spent most of his time in recording studios polishing his craft. However, Dequon’s music was not getting much exposure and his career was at a stand-still. He needed the right name, and strategy to push his career to the next level.
After taking on the name “Young Quon” in 2004, Dequon released “Incredible” and that track landed him great opportunities. Houston based Hip Hop radio station (The Box) placed the track in rotation and in turn Young Quon got local exposure. He opened for artists such as: Paul Wall, E 40, Lil Keke, and Stat Quo. Young Quon quickly became an unsigned hype and his fans base grew in demand of an album.
In 2006 he released his first album “Doin It Movin”. The album was a success and Young Quon got inspired to go by the name “Quon”. In the year 2010 Quon dropped his second album “Way Mo Major” produced by Rocadolla, Jigg, and Shorty. The album focused on the struggles that Quon experienced in the music industry and his personal expressions about coming up.
Every track had a southern flavor with a sharp urban twist to it. The first single released from the album was “Get It Girl” and it was followed by a music video. The single is dedicated to the women who “got the skills to pay the bills” and the music video shows the lifestyle of a female hustler and a stripper.
On the highway to success Quon turned the heat up with “I want it all ft. Jigg”. The single did tremendous and the follow-up track “Go Hard” had the streets talking. Quon kept working on new projects. In 2012 Quon released a single called “Lose Control”, promoted it on radio stations, media outlets, and social media. Quon’s fan base grew rapidly.
