Black Hart – Q&A Interview

Black Hart - Book Of Marlon (Album)

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been making Hip Hop?

Well let’s see, My life’s story in a sentence, I’m a humble dude who loves hip hop and I done seen it all. I’ve been writing for over twenty years, been recording for 15.

What influences you in making Hip Hop?

I do this for my cousin who passed away back in 94′ he had bars but the lord took him before he had a shot, so I’m carrying his legacy. Wu Tang!!!!! I was breaking my neck to join the Wu lol we was even speaking they slang, my crew (Dark Empire) was inspired by them.

Describe your music, and what separates you from other MCs?

Well….. Lets start with the fact that I am not materialistic. Not knocking those who do their thing but I’m the type if everyone is a New York Giant fan I’m a Jets fan, I speak about my life and its experiences to some that may be boring but to many it might be exciting. that’s how art (music) should be stuff you can relate too. Again not knocking other artists but not all of us can relate to being billionaires but everyone can relate to being broke, relationships, and other aspects of life we all face. We all gotta get up and do something for money to eat be it hustling on the block or hustling fixing lawn mowers it’s the same motivation same objective. No one else can compare to me because there is only one me….

Who have you collaborated with? Who would you like to collab with in the near future?

I have only collaborated with my crew (Dark Empire) and family. I’d love to collab with the greats, Em, Hov, Etc. honestly not to put any artist on a pedestal I just want to build and collab with whoever is down and see what happens. I’m extremely humble when it comes to collabs, I just focus on fitting on the song.

Your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

Underground hip hop is like home cooked food. Hip Hop is a billion dollar corporation now, so you gotta respect what it is( mainstream)but everyone still loves a murderous freestyle, a nasty sample flipped into a beat, or a DJ killing it scratching. Those aspects are like your collard greens and hamhocks, your cornbread, your gumbo or jumbelaya. We don’t get all that everyday now with your Mcdonalds and Pizza Huts, but we all still yearn THAT. Me lol I’m tryna drop soul food every bar

Production wise, who are your influences? Who does your production? And who would you like to work with?

I’m a Rza head, I’m a sucka for samples and well placed drums, Anyone who makes beats like that got my ear shot out to shadowville productions, they like the Avengers no the Xmen of beat makers. I’d love a beat collabo of Rza and Mike Will Made It LMAO that shit sounds insane throw in Timbaland too LOL and Pharell We’ll snatch a Grammy for that

Any current or future projects you are promoting?

Right now today, it’s the “Book Of Marlon” but coming this fall it’s “Breaking Bad” Book Of Marlon is for people to hear me, Breaking Bad is for the fans, those who “get my jokes” Real talk though Breaking Bad is a monster compared to Book Of Marlon

Can you give us a brief description of the creative process of “Book Of Marlon”? Also/ tell us a little bit about the concept and idea behind your Album/Mixtape Cover Art.

Book Of Marlon was kinda closure for the first half of my life, I lost my closest cousin, I have DADDY issues (lol) I suffered two bad marriages, and this project kinda vents all that. I come to terms with who I am, not who I should be. As for the artwork I imagined myself like one of them statues in Rome, on some coliseum shit, like I should already be celebrated. Gives the listeners more of a reason to try to figure me out.
